Stacks for Spectra

an ensemble piece for at least 5 instruments

Opgedragen aan Lucien Goethals

This little piece was written on a request by the Spectra ensemble, conducted by Filip Rathe. It consists of exactly 100 bars. The tempo should be taken faster than possible. Dynamics are free, but as a result of the wide range used and the very fast tempo, most notes will have to be played rather softly. However a very high level of energy should be obtained in attempting to hold the ensemble together. It may become shaky at times, but the serious attempt to stay together as well as with the score should be clearly projected.

Suitable instruments include: piccolo, flute, violin, clarinet, Eb clarinet, viola, oboe, cello, trumpet, trombone, double bass, piano, harpsichord, recorder, accordion, synthesizer, xylophone, lithophone, tuba. Although we provided 5 parts, any part may always be split over more than a single instrument. Notes that are impossible to get played by a given and large enough ensemble can be omitted or replaced (for very high notes) with a high pitched noise of any kind.

The duration should be minimum one minute, but may very well reach 3 minutes (maximum).

The score can be requested in printed form for free by email from the Logos Foundation.

The piece was written in august/september 2001.

A very poor midi rendering of this piece can be heard in the background. You can download the file by clicking this link.
