performance notes

This piece can be played by any type of two matched tubas , or similar instruments such as euphoniums, barytones,alto-horns, bass-tubas, sousaphones etc...

Section  A of the piece is played as written. The requested  slaptongue sound should be really loud and percussive.

Section  B is played twice: a first time exactly as written  (disregarding the  numbers  on several  of  the  notes),  and  then  a  second  time  by substituting  all the pitches with a numerical indication ( +1,+2,+3,+4,+5,+6)  by other  pitches corresponding to the N-th following harmonic overtone  on  the valve  position  for the previously played note ( always F ). As can  be  seen from  the next two examples, worked out for a euphonium, different  versions are possible:

Harmonic series on F for the euphonium, when using the (non orthodox) combination of the 2-1/2 + the 1 tone valve:

Example worked out in case the players choose to play F using only the 1-tone valve:

In  any  version, the series should be rising pitch  and  both  players should use the same valve positions.

In section C players can choose to play either the notes as written,  or, if  possible, the notes indicates by the numbers above them,  transposed  one and more octaves downwards.

Section  D, the last section, is played as written, forte throughout  and with really very strong accents.

This piece can be played as written, it being pretty irrelevant  whether the  actual pitches  sound as written or not, regardless the  tuning  of  the instruments  used.  Both instruments should be identical  and  both  players should of course read the score the same way.
